You often hear there is real power in telling true stories to a live audience. One frequently used strategy for using stories during a keynote speech is based on personal tales of triumph over adversity.
However, after I hear these stories I am very inspired, feel great empathy and know I have not suffered enough!
If a speaker tells a story about a time in their life when they were struggling or facing great challenges the do need to find the point of wisdom as it connects to this audience and how these connection will change their condition. This can be very powerful for audience members who relate. When the speaker portrays the stories honestly and clearly, it will captivate the audience and spur them into action – exactly the point of hearing a motivational speaker in the first place.
