It’s a thrill to be honored as one of the National Speakers Association’s 10 Leading Ladies! All of us have served as president of the Association over the last forty-three years.
The NSA was only 10 years old, when I became its first woman president. As young association, one of our greatest “growing up” challenges was to stop simply worrying each year, “What are we going to do this year?” and to start thinking long-term. We asked, “Where are we today? What do we want to grow, to become?” We made long-term decisions. We started a strategic planning committee. That might not be a big deal now, but at the time it was absolutely revolutionary! We lucked out with Ed Scannell as chair, who had a wealth of experience from his work on the boards of ASTD (The American Society for Training and Development) and MPI (Meeting Professionals International). Plus as a bonus, we had strategic planning genius George Morrisey there to guide us. Even now, NSA benefits from the work of that committee. It’s wonderful to see how NSA has grown in the many ways it supports members and sets the standard for excellence in the speaking industry.
