Life is full of everyday adventures that are totally delightful…sometimes when you least expect them.
Okay, I’m being overly dramatic. However, at the time with a bleeding finger, I was glad of Kaiser’s good bedside manner. One Sunday I badly cut one of my fingers. After a couple of hours of bleeding, I thought it a good idea to pack up my work and go to Kaiser Emergency. My philosophy is “why not be productive while you wait.”
Since my 20s I have been a loyal member of Kaiser Permanente and always happy with the attention of the doctors. As I was admitted I told the young lady “No, this was not a work-related accident, it is a being an idiot related accident.”
Lucky for me I was the third person waiting. Within ten minutes of walking in the front door, a doctor who was handsome enough to be McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy and should be used in sales campaigns for Kaiser introduced himself and asked: “I don’t suppose you are related to Robert Fripp?”
If you are familiar with the Fripp Kids you know my reply “Yes, and he is one year, one month, two days, and two and a half hours younger than I am.” More proof was the back on my sweatshirt. The Japan 92 tour The First Day Robert Fripp and David Sylvian.
Dr. Jaime Cintado had heard Brother perform several times. He went to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville so 12th & Porter was one of his regular hangouts. On one occasion Robert answered questions and Jaime was thrilled to have his question taken out of the hat. “What do you like about being a musician?” Dr. Jaime reported Brother’s comments were eloquent.
Jaime asked if I knew about Rock Medicine where he volunteers through the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic http://www.rockmed.org/
After our fun conversation and having my finger super glued (or at least the medical version) together we walked outside for good cell reception. I told Jaime “Brother is going to want to thank you for looking after his sister so well.” They had what seemed like a great conversation.

Hi Patricia,hi Robert.i’m ur cousin from England.(now west wales).my mother Winifred and aunty edie were cousins.mother used to drop in to c aunt Edie whenever she,father uncle Les and mothers sister aunt Eunice were in the Winbourne area.usually visiting my brother Stephen who still lives in Blandford Forum.i wrote u a letter Pat some months ago but sadly didn’t get a response.(probably sent to the wrong address)i am wondering how u both r of course,( altho there’s not much to know re ur fabulous respective careers.truly amazing.) how is cousin Malcolm who lives in Ross-on-Wye.h the family was in the grocery business up until the 1970s.Pat,i remember wen mother once visited uncle Maurice? and aunt Edith,aunt Eddie told them u were with the famous Los Angeles hairdresser Jay Sebring who was the victim of the Manson horror slayings.and Rob,mum told mum she was flying to Los Angeles to see Pat wen this girl happened to ask why she,aunt Eddie was going to America.mum mentioned ur name and aunt Eddie said this girl culdnt believe she had met the famous Robert Fripps mother.she just had to get mums autograph.i haven’t mentioned Toyha yet.mum told mum again another anecdote.she told mum u and Toyah had an open marriage,not seeing each other for months but” it seems to be working”mum said.this was in the mid 1970s.all this from the family archives. We may not have been in contact but we r bound by being blood cousins are we not.well Toyah,wot a fabulous iconic singer of the 1970s and beyond.just loved yr whole career and very much on the “box”.and u look as delectable as ever.i am always fulminating about u and for good reasons too.i send my love to u all.i wuld luv to come and c u Robert,Toyah sometime.my tel.number is 07749187564.please get in touch.
