You have 30 seconds to command the attention of your audience. Don’t waste it!

The first 30 seconds of any presentation have a great impact. Most people aren’t bad once they get going if they know what they’re talking about. However, very few know how to start and conclude on a high. Here are a few options to show you how you might open:

“If I were to ask you…”
“Would it surprise you to know…”
“Congratulations, you must be proud of…”
“It was the most exciting day of my life…”
“If you were to ask me why is it so great to work at __________, I would tell you…”

Now you have some simple phrases to set up what you might say to follow. Why don’t you take your favorite, write a short script, and go practice on a few people and see what they think?

Here are a few of my previous blog posts with additional information on how to open presentations: Open and Close Your Presentations with Power, Use a Quote to Open Your Talk, and The First 30 Seconds.
